Montana Hemp Farmer Caught Between Federal and State Laws

A farmer in Montana who won approval from the state to grow hemp has been denied the use of water from a federally controlled reservoir because the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation prohibits the use of federal water on federally banned substances. The Bureau’s local manager, who is considering an exemption for the farmer, stated that the agency wants to “get this decision right, because this does set precedents for how we proceed from here going forward.” Read more here.
