The Commerce Department has proposed to add a citizenship question to the census, which many states have objected will negatively affect the federal funding they receive. The Commerce Department recently moved to stay proceedings in the district court until the Supreme Court decides whether the deposition of Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross can be taken. District Judge Jesse Furman, declaring “enough is enough,” rejected the request. Closing arguments in the trial were presented this week, and oral argument before the Supreme Court on the deposition issue has been scheduled February 19.
