India’s federal Central Bureau of Investigation has come into conflict with state police forces in West Bengal over an investigation of an alleged ponzi scheme. Critics of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government argue that the clash has occurred because the CBI has become little more than a tool to suppress opponents of Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party.
