Federal Court Approves Supervised Injection Facility

A federal district court has ruled that Philadelphia’s plan to allow for the opening of a supervised facility for injecting illegal drugs under medical supervision does not violate the federal Controlled Substances Act. The Justice Department has opposed the idea, and the U.S. Attorney for the eastern district of Pennsylvania plans to appeal the decision. If the facility opens, it would be the first place in the United States to allow for the legal injection of illegal substances. Read more here and here.
