Rick Hess and Ashley Berner discuss the new Federal Scholarship Tax Credit, which supports private-school choice with a $1,700 dollar-for-dollar federal credit for taxpayers who contribute to a scholarship granting organization. States have the choice to opt out of the program, but if residents of those states do claim the tax credit, those dollars will underwrite scholarship programs in other states. Hess notes that “if one believes in the virtues of federalism and ‘returning education to the states’ (and I do), then this sort of federal bullying is a problem.” Read more here.
