Canadian Leadership Revisits Trade Barriers that Sparked “Beer Run” Litigation

An article in The New York Times looks back at litigation stemming from alcohol-related trade barriers existing among Canadian provinces. The Canadian Supreme Court affirmed the barriers in a 2018 ruling. The nation’s new prime minister, Mark Carney, has targeted such barriers for removal, although “many remain skeptical, given the eternal tensions in Canadian federalism between unifying and decentralizing” (password required). Read more here.
