John Dinan is professor and chair of the Department of Politics and International Affairs at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He earned his PhD in government and foreign affairs from the University of Virginia.
Dinan’s research focuses on federalism and state constitutionalism, with a particular focus on the role of state constitutions in American political and constitutional development and the ways state officials wield influence in federal policymaking. He is the author of The American State Constitutional Tradition (University Press of Kansas), State Constitutional Politics: Governing by Amendment in the American States (University of Chicago Press), and The Virginia State Constitution (Oxford University Press), among other books and articles. He is also the editor of Federalism: Core Documents (Ashbrook Press).
Dinan has served as editor of Publius: The Journal of Federalism and chair of the Federalism and Intergovernmental Relations section of the American Political Science Association.
